Can you describe your work and how your planning degree contributes to it?
I do economic development work, focusing on infrastructure related projects. I specifically lead a program called Current which seeks to spur growth and innovation in the water sector in the Chicago region.
What do you like most about your current job or related work in planning?
It is public-private, requires a lot of strategic thinking and implementation in addition to working with a diverse set of stakeholders.
What advice do you wish you had gotten as a MUPP or, conversely, what advice would you give to young planners today?
Coursework that is focused on real projects, in addition to having a good internship is the most beneficial for securing a job. Planning can mean many things, don't worry too much about getting a planning job - be open to new and different opportunities.
